The LHZ 3-Band preamp combines our 2-band LHZ-04 preamp and MID-03 midrange control into a single-board 3-band preamp. This new design has several notable advantages:

  • Simplified wiring: Since the midrange EQ module is built into the board, there is no separate module or wiring required.
  • Perfect for small enclosures: If you are installing the LHZ into a Fender, Ibanez, Schecter, Warwick, or other bass with limited space, this is the solution for you.
  • Field-replaceable pots: Pots are connected to the board via compact JST connectors that make replacing or reconfiguring controls easy.
  • RF hardened: We've improved the virtual ground and added RF blocking components to inhibit QAM digital transmitter noise.
  • Delivers the same vintage "Haz" tone and feel. We test each board against our "1981 reference board" test signals to ensure it offers the same EQ, dynamic response, and unique harmonic overtones that we've captures from the original.
  • Midrange control range is adjustable: Two DIP switches on located on the top edge of the board to make finding the right midrange EQ curve easy.

Played with a normal or light touch, the preamp provides a clean bell-like tone. But, when played aggressively, this preamp provides a subtle tubelike compression and adds distinctive high-frequency harmonic overtones to the sound that perfectly accentuates the Spector® growl and brings out the beast in ANY bass!

TESTIMONIALS / FEEDBACK FROM USERS

"Hey my brother. Your preamp is kicking butt! So many people are noticing and asking 'what is up with your bass?' and I tell them about the LHZ preamp."

JEFF ADAMS (Starship feat. Mickey Thomas, The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame band, formerly of Survivor)

"Just installed your pre into my Euro LX 4, tried it at a gig I do every Wednesday night and it is simply amazing. It is the Haz Lab I've been after but always too late to get!

I'm a dynamic player, and with my right hand it gives me 2 1/2 different bass guitars. With the EQ dimed the warm overdrive that kicks in the low mid to low frequencies and the rattle of the high end are an aggressive, artistic joy to behold.

You just don't get that with a TonePump. Back off with the right hand and it suddenly becomes a very well-behaved former beast. All without touching a knob.

I'll be getting one for my LX 5 soon."

LYNN SORENSEN (Heaven & Earth, Bad Company, Paul Rodgers)

"I just got it installed, and OH MAN does this thing BARK now! How do I explain it...like this bass has become more sensitive, and it sounds ALIVE! The BQS I was using was fantastic and very clean, but your preamp gives it this attitude that just wasn't there before.  I put this through my Quad Cortex and I've just about captured Eddie Jackson's sound from Mindcrime, diming your preamp REALLY brought it out. Excellent work my guy!"
~Ryan Wilde

"...you knocked it out of the park with this preamp mate!
The LHZ has so much more harmonic content and an overall pleasing warmth. It suffers none of the weird mid range resonance of the TP (TonePump) and after quickly removing all of the EQ work that I had to do to the TP the circuit sounded exactly how I had hoped it would! Rich and interesting."

"I just had the Haz preamp installed in my Spector Euro RST with Aguilar Super Double pickups, to replace an Aguilar OBP-2. It has honestly transformed the sound of the bass, it sounds so much cleaner and crisper and the ‘dimed’ setting is perfect. Keep up the great work, and thanks!"
~Thom Bentley (email)

"the handling, sound and control are so good my band members say this is the best sounding bass i ever had!"
~Sonny Stalmans (Facebook)

"just dropped the LHZ-04 in my old Ibanez and damn it sounds incredible! The main reason I played Spector basses is for that tone. But now the LHZ gives me that same rich tone and dynamic impact in every bass I've added it into! This thing isn't just for Spectors, it's great EVERYWHERE. Seriously, thank you for doing what you do."

"First impression: it's awesome. Compared to my 18V HAZ when both fully boosted yours has more bass.
Has (or HAZ) just the that feeling!"

"Sounds fantastic! Thank you so much I love how the bass sounds so far.
If you ever decide to build a pedal version of this preamp I would love to get one to try other passive vintage basses that I rather not modify."

"Preamp arrived really fast, instructions are very comprehensive. Put it in my Euro Spector® today, replacing the TonePump. Preamp does everything as advertised! highly recommended!"

"Outstanding. Been looking for a smaller version of this preamp type for a long time, thank you!"

"I got the preamp installed Monday and had a gig Tuesday. I love what I've heard so far! Definitely much more clarity than the TonePump. There's a significant amount of presence in the mids while retaining that punchy tone. Nice crisp lows without any mud whatsoever."

"On first listen.. just sounds like a Haz to me.. very happy with this"

"I just tried your LHZ preamp in my Euro LX5. Oh, it sounds awesome, like a Spector® should sound, it has THE sound for sure! I can't thank you enough! You saved my bass!"

"I can't put my finger on just what sounds different, but it's just got more ~Angry~ which is what I was hoping for!"

“A +, 10 out of 10 seller! Very kind, humble and knowledgeable person. I asked him about 100 questions and he always took his time to reply. If you love that old 80s-90s rock HAZ tone, this is a must! Get it while it’s hot!!”
